Essay:
My church is AMAZING! It is what has kept me going through my life. I have grown up going to only two churches my whole life and one of them, I only attended as a small child. When I was about 5 years old my parents started going to the First Presbyterian Church in our town. That’s where I made my best friends and met the people who would help me get through everything in my life! I have a sturdy foundation in the church. We have gone through a couple pastors since I have been there but our current pastor is incredible. Our church used to be really traditional, but in the past couple years we have grown and evolved. We still have traditional values and music but things are a bit more upbeat. I think that is very important in the church. I’m not saying you must accommodate for every persons needs and change with society, but keeping things upbeat sometimes brings a new excitement to people’s lives. My family spends at least part of 4 out of the 7 days a week at our church working on something. My whole family is involved in the church ministry whether its my parents teaching Sunday school or Wednesday night classes to kids and teens, or my sisters and I sitting in the nursery for members of the church. The church is a huge support system. They not only help you grow spiritually, but the also help people physically. My church has done many mission type deals. When I was in high school, my youth group raised money to help build a house in an orphanage in Africa. It was an amazing feeling. Our church now goes to Louisiana every year to continue to help rebuilding after the hurricane messes. This year I am a freshman in college and church is one of the only things that has kept me here. It is such a challenge to be away from everything you know and go to school. There are so many temptations that kids fall into. It was a struggle to find a church that I thought was my fit. I was trying to compare everything to my church at home and none of the new churches were living up to its great expectations. I talked with my pastor a couple times and he said I just need to open my eyes to new things. I finally decided on a church here at school. I love it. Granted it will never have the atmosphere that I have at home with all those people who really know me and watched me grow up but its time for me to create a new atmosphere and see what I can do to help my new church home grow and prosper. The music is my favorite part of church. That is the main reason for my choice of church. I also enjoy a really good preacher but the music is what really gets me in the right mind frame to dive deep into God’s word and take it all in. Church isn’t the only time I listen to music though. My family constantly has Christian radio stations on or a CD in the stereo. We are also HUGE concert goers! We love to be able to take our friends and family to great Christian concerts with us so they can have the same feeling we do when we go to them. The church is a great place to find a sturdy foundation in your life. It’s not just a boring hour of lecture, but its also a time for some sweet worship music and testimony.
