Essay:
As I was reading through all of Dr. Parker’s quotes, there was one in particular that stood out to me because it described perfectly how I have started to view life as of recently. First, let me give some history to what has happened in the past week: On Friday, one of my best friends was involved in a car accident in which he was driving drunk, hit a ditch, and burned to death. It has been a very tragic week. Right before it happened, I was supposed to meet up with him. I told him I was not having the best of days, and that I just wanted to go home. Now, thinking back to it, I regret not seeing him because I could have said goodbye one last time.
Dr. Parker’s quote “We ought to make every moment count, because it may be the last” is a great outlook to have on life. You always hear the saying “live life to the fullest”, but it is not about living life to the fullest, it is about making every moment count. If I would have known that I was not going to see my best friend ever again, I would have hopped into my car, and drove to see him. The crazy thing is that no one ever knows when it could be someone’s last day. If he were here right now, I bet he would think twice about driving that night. Better yet, I bet he would think twice about driving drunk. Making every moment count is making memories worth keeping, not making bad decisions that only seem fun at the time being.
In that past few days, I have tried my hardest to make every moment count. Whether I am at school, at work, or with my friends, I make the best of it. As Albert Einstein once said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” Life is a crazy and confusing thing. It is too short to be wasted. No one knows how long you really have. God works in mysterious ways and he has a plan set for everyone. We can sit here and question “why?” and “how?” but we should not question things that happen. Instead, make the best of today. Make the best of right now. There is no turning back, and no jumping forward. What matters is happening right here, right now. Make it count.
