Essay:
God is commonly referred to as our Heavenly Father. In the Bible he makes it evident that he is our Father and Guider. Ironically, God’s guidance in our life parallels the interactions that take place between a parent and their child. A parent patiently instructs, reprimands, or even punishes a child in order to instill within them strong morals. Parents constantly let children learn the hard way, letting them attempt the challenges they encounter throughout life with the knowledge that they may not succeed but will learn from them. Children, unaware of a lesson, are upset that they do not get their way, but their parents know best. Therefore as Dr. Charles Parker was quoted, “He sees us when we need to be instructed and He allows events to take place in our life to teach us” is evident throughout all of our lives.
I find myself constantly praying for patience, a virtue I just cannot ever seem to have enough of. Instead of instantly finding myself emulating an abundance of patience, I find myself in situations that require more patience in order to strengthen my tolerance of patience. Through these situations I acquire the skills to be more patient and as a result have become a more patient person. God is full of unconditional love for his children.
Although, I do not believe God punishes his children, I feel that God uses unfortunate events to teach us and strengthen us. By granting us free will, the events that occur in our lives do so as a result of our personal choices or the choices of another individual. I do believe God strengthens us and teaches us lessens through otherwise unfortunate experiences. Many people are focused too strongly on the event itself to even recognize God working through their tragedy and pain. We may as well be horses wearing blinders with God standing beside us. It is important to continuously look for God’s hand in your life in order to recognize the subtle workings of our Father.
Negative and unfortunate events happen to everyone in some way or another. It is the way in which they chose to interpret these events that affect the outcome of our hearts. Next time you find yourself in a sticky situation or an unfortunate event, ask yourself, what can I learn from this? Is there something that I am not seeing? I’m sure you will find the answer will always reveal a disguised lesson from our heavenly Father.
