Essay:
There have been many times in my youth where I didn’t want to see the true problems I was facing in my life. I cannot really say why; perhaps I was overwhelmed or frightened, or maybe my issues seemed too daunting to face. Whatever the case may have been, I would place my worries in my back pocket and ignore them, too scared to do anything else. The unfortunate thing about disregarding your troubles is that they never really go away. On the contrary – they actually get worse because they are not getting resolved. Although it may initially seem like the easiest route to take, ignoring them don’t make them disappear. That is why I felt most inspired by Dr. Parker’s quote, “in order for one to solve a problem, must one not first admit its existence?” Life experiences have taught me that this is indeed a truth.
As the age-old adage goes, the first step is admitting that you have a problem. If you choose to believe there is no problem, then your issue could never be solved because in essence there would be nothing to solve. It cannot even cease to subsist because you never saw it there. Did it even exist in the first place? And if it didn’t exist, how do you make things in your life that are seemingly in disarray better? It is actually impossible and defies logic. Admitting the problem is the only way to solve it.
As human beings, we should continually strive to improve personally – emotionally, mentally and spiritually – as well as professionally. Growth can only be attained through learning from your past, whether it be triumphs you want to enhance or mistakes you want to fix. More than anything else, this could be the greatest reason to admit when you have a problem and consequently solve it. Dr. Parker spoke wisely when he proposed his question. He has made me think about the veracity of his words and how they mirror my own life. I would like to believe that I have overcome many obstacles in my life because I chose to face them head on, and that has made me a stronger person and a better person.
