Essay:
When I look back at the changes I have gone through in the past few years, I think that the quote, “It is the will of God that I live a holy life,” definitely holds true for me. I remember when I was in middle school, I strove constantly for good grades and spent most of my time doing homework and not caring about much else. I stayed that way for all of my middle school years and well into my freshmen year. During my freshmen year I became friends with a boy. I remember the first day of sophomore year. He and I were walking out to the lunch area and he suggested that we go sit with a group of his friends that he had known from elementary school. I agreed even though it was not the group of people we normally sat with the previous year. So we walked over to them, said hello and sat down. He introduced me and we all continued talking about our first days’ and our experiences. The rest of the week went by and so did the next. By the end of the second week I had become good friends with them. I continued to eat lunch with them every day for the next month or two. During that time I noticed that they would often have conversations about God or the Bible and that some of them wore “Jesus shirts.” I thought it was odd that they talked about religion so much; it always seemed to me that kind of thing was left for church. No matter, I listened and occasionally participated in the conversations. Finally one day they invited me to their church youth group. I was hesitant but I agreed to go. That evening when my mom dropped me off at their church, I nervously walked over to join my friend. He said he was glad to see that I had come. During the service the youth pastor introduced the new visitors including myself. He then continued with his sermon which I found to be very interesting. After the sermon the youth worship band played a few songs that I found to be similar to the style of music that I liked. Later my friend asked me whether or not I liked the service. I told him that I liked it a lot and that I would probably go again next week. As I promised, I returned the following week and the week after that. Before I knew it, I was going every week.
As time went on I formed a stronger connection with God and reaccepted him into my life. I have continued to grow in my spiritual walk and read the Bible often. I go to youth group and church every week and also attend bible studies. I truly believe that it was God’s will that I live a “holy life” and that I was reconnected with him for a reason. I thank my new friends often for inviting me to youth group for it has really changed my life. Not only have I found the best set of friends I have ever had, but I have also made a friendship that will last much longer: one with God.
