Essay:
What would the reaction of the American public be if the President of the United States resigned when their job got tough? What would the reaction of fans be if their favorite team was losing at halftime, and the players decided to leave the stadium rather than staying and playing the second half? The answer is simple; their reactions would be ones of disgust, anger, confusion, and disappointment. While quitting may seem like an easy way out of a problem or challenge, it is unbecoming to throw in the towel and give up hope. Children often hear their parents say “finish your dinner” or “finish your homework.” Finishing what you start is a great attribute to instill in a child from an early age, and should be practiced and perfected. When a person embarks on a challenge, whether it is learning a new skill, a sports competition, a solution to a problem, or even just a daily crossword puzzle, their goal should be to see it through to the end. If a challenge is worth the effort at all, it is worth the effort to finish. Beginning a task and quitting in the middle of it not only wastes your time, it shows a lack of character and lack of discipline. If a person gives up on a challenge when an obstacle arises, they are essentially giving up hope on achieving their ultimate goal, or are too lazy to put in the work necessary to complete the challenge. The challenge was not worth beginning if it was not worth finishing. Nothing of worth has ever been accomplished without work being done to make it happen. Laziness is a trait that has begun to receive a positive reputation among students in high school and in college. Students think it is cool, or even funny, to put off an assignment until the last minute. Procrastination is simply a type of laziness that leads to poor quality of work, or failure to complete the task. It is the mark of a good and honorable person to finish a task even when the outcome looks bleak. Even if the result is not going to be what was hoped for, one gains valuable experience and character seeing things through. There is simply no benefit for a person to give up and quit. It shows lack of character, laziness, and wastes the valuable time and effort that the person had previously put in to begin the process. A quitter will never achieve their goal, and one who achieves their goal never quit.
